Howdy folks!

It's been a couple of incredibly busy weeks for us here at Curio, and we hope you love the new look! Feedback has been very positive and we look forward to a continued progression in our interior design.

We have some new regular and weekly events to make you aware of:

Every Monday is MtG Draft at 7:00PM & STAR TREK Attack Wing Organized Play at 7:30PM
Star Trek Attack Wing Organized Play entry fees vary; OP kits are used as prize support, and store credit alternatives when applicable!

Every Tuesday is X-WING Game Night & MtG Standard at 7:00PM
X-Wing Game Nights are $5 entry fee with awesome prize support that allows the winners to select what they want from a pool of promos, store credit, and other unique prizes, including the occasional hand-painted miniature!

Almost Every Thursday is Movie Premiere Night at 11:00PM
Cost is $10, which covers your movie ticket (and saves you a few bucks too). To participate, meet at Curio Cavern by 11PM. We will carpool to a nearby movie theater and watch a Midnight showing of really cool movies together! We will announce each week whether or not we will be doing a Movie Premiere night for that week, and what the movie will be. 

*Thursday, 7/31/14's movie will be Guardians of the Galaxy

We are now taking preregistrations for our M2015 Prerelease events, which will go just like our past Prerelease events!

...Hokay, so we've been up to some pretty intense work around the shop lately (pun intended, inside joke), and we have a pretty huge announcement to make:

CURIO CAVERN IS MOVING! Our official move date is NEXT Monday, July 7th!

*Gasp!*

...where to?!

We are moving to... the other side of the same shopping center! Yay! From Suite F to Suite T.

What does this mean? How will this affect me?

Well, first of all, things will look much nicer. There will be some extra gaming space, and some extra display space. A bigger (and handicap-friendly) bathroom, and a water fountain. Better parking. New furniture (though we will keep our new, sexy tables), new products (we will be delving into miniature games, including Games Workshop!), two very neat 6 feet by 4 feet tables with plenty of beautiful terrain to decorate them with and play miniature games to your heart's content, and more!

Oh, but this must mean you will be closed for a period of time, right?

Nope!

We will close on Sunday, July 6th, at our current shop. We will open on Monday, July 7th, at our new shop!

...interesting. Exciting! Anything else I should know? Any... SALES?

Why YES, in fact, there will be a week-long NEW SHOPPE SALE, starting on Monday, July 7th and ending as we close on Sunday, July 13th. The sale will entail the following:

ALL SEALED PRODUCT WILL BE 20% OFF! 
ALL NON-LIMITED (Draft/Sealed) EVENTS WILL BE FREE!

Yes, the free-entry-fee events will still have plenty of prize support.

Speaking of value gained, there's another Raffle Drawing this Saturday! It will be like ye normal Raffle Drawing, except with TWICE THE AMOUNT OF STUFF TO GIVE AWAY. No big deal. ;-)

Here are some progress shots of the moving process:

Our first major shipment arrives! Book cases! Eleven, to be exact.

Five assembled. These will hold board games and things of that size. And look fancy doing it.

Our second major shipment arrives! What could it be? Many, many things...

...one of which is a brand new display case! A rather nice one, too. A pain to build, however.

Yet it was built! Here is the beginning of our counter space for the new shop.

Two 6'x4' chunks of plywood. We pushed these all the way from Home Depot on this here cart...

The plywood will be our table tops for two custom-built 6x4 tables! 

First, we add the edging, then get it ready for...

...lots of sanding!

Next comes the wood stain & wood varnish. Still a work in progress :-)

As you can see, still many things to do, and in less than a week! We are moving fast though, and all the wheels are turning! We are very excited to show you a beautiful new home for Curio Cavern, and we hope you will fall in love with it all over again!

WCC 6/5/14: SEALED DECK Mondays, Shiny Toys, Raffle Drawing THIS Saturday!

Hi folks!

First, an important announcement:
Starting next Monday (6/9/14), we will be hosting SEALED DECK TOURNAMENTS to get you folks ready for Grand Prix DC! Entry fee will be $25! Start time will be 7:00PM! Monday Draft is still regularly scheduled!

WCC 5/27/14: It's a Conspiracy!

It has been a while! We have some exciting news we have been itching to share with you all- news that has been kept under wraps while we wait on all the proper information from our distributors about product allocation and boring details like that... so, to jump to the point:

Starting Saturday, June 7th, we will begin hosting Conspiracy DRAFTS every Saturday & Sunday at 2:00PM. 

Entry fee will be $15, just like regular drafts, and we will happily accommodate multiple pods each Conspiracy Draft Event, while supplies last. It will work like this:
-Draft in a pod of 6, 7, or 8 players
-After you're done drafting, you will be randomly paired into a 3-player or 4-player multiplayer game
-You will play this one awesome, untimed multiplayer round.
-Winner of a 3-player game wins $15 store credit
-Winner of a 4-player game wins $20 store credit
It's that simple!

Also, in each pod there will be a quite stunning door prize, while supplies last:

In addition, we are also now (as of this very moment) taking PREORDERS on Conspiracy Booster Boxes at $125 each! These numbers will be very limited and will probably run out in availability before the product is released. You are welcome to preorder over the phone or in person!

WCC 5/7/14: JOU League & our first L5R Tournament!

Greetings!

Today we bring you some cool news!

First, let us discuss our Journey Into NYX SEALED LEAGUE!

Here's how it will work:

Entry fee: $40

Begins: Friday, 5/9/14 (This Friday!)

What you get: You will roll a D6 for a random one of the five Journey into Nyx Prerelease kits. If you roll a "6" side on the D6, you get to choose your color instead. You will crack your kit and record your Sealed pool with us (and cards added to your pool at later dates will be added to this recorded pool).

How it works: Every Standard-legal card in your kit will compose your Sealed Deck pool. The League will run for five weeks! Each week cycles as we open on Mondays, except the first Monday (because we like to give the first week some extra "grace period" by starting the league on Friday instead of Monday). You get to play three ranked Sealed Deck League matches per week, against other players in the League (limit one match per individual, each week). We will record your wins and losses. Matches are best 2 out of 3.

-At the start of Week 2 (Monday, 5/19/14), each player will receive a free booster of Theros to add to their League Sealed Pool.

-At the start of Week 3 (Monday, 5/26/14), each player will receive a free booster of Born of the Gods to add to their League Sealed Pool.

-At the start of Week 4 (Monday, 6/2/14), each player will receive a free booster of Journey Into Nyx to add to their League Sealed Pool.

-At the start of Week 5 (Monday, 6/9/14), each player will receive a free booster of their choice from Theros Block to add to their League Sealed Pool.

Our Journey Into Nyx Sealed League will end by close of business on Sunday, 6/15/14! There will be awesome prize support and it will be awarded based on record primarily, with most-games-played being the tie-breaker! Expect some random prizes too ;-)



Next up, we will be hosting an awesome LEGEND OF THE FIVE RINGS Tournament at the end of this month!

WCC 4/14/14: Five Rings to Rule Them All

Once upon a time, nineteen years ago at Gencon '95, debuted a brilliant idea for a card game that sought to draw on and progressively affect a rich and untapped storyline. That game was, and still is:

Produced by Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG), Legend of the Five Rings is a CCG based in the setting of a feudal Japan-like world of Rokugan, rich with magic and mythical creatures. A multitude of nine prominent clans (think: colors of Magic) vie for dominance and the Imperial Favor. 

In 2014, AEG has launched a new campaign for L5R (this game is easy to abbreviate!) called...

Ivory Edition is essentially the new and exclusively-played format for L5R. It is the format you will see at almost every major rated event, and it consists of cards legal from four particular expansion sets, with more to come:

L5R is seeing a huge resurgence, and that overflowing interest is definitely affecting folks here at Curio! We are seeing new players (and old) entering or re-entering the game left and right on a weekly basis. With this new format, it is a very exciting time for many to try this amazing game out, and we are more than happy to teach you and/or answer any questions you have about L5R. Every Curio Staff member plays and enjoys L5R, and the L5R sealed product is flying off the shelves. 

If you would like to learn more about L5R, there is a vast amount of information available online, and they even have their own version of MtG's Gatherer: the Oracle of the Void, found here. That being said, perhaps the best way to learn is to come on in and try it out! You'll probably see a decent amount of the game being played now at the shop, and we are happy to demo it for you.

In other news, Magic is at a very exciting dawn of a new set, with spoilers of Journey Into Nyx being unmasked on a daily basis! You can find them on Wizard of the Coast's official website, or many other avenues (I personally prefer to locate the most up-to-date spoilers for a new set at www.mtgsalvation.com). This set is looking to be pretty powerful. We won't spoil any cards here for respect to those who want to be surprised, but we will say that you will be surprised indeed!
